Our School

Deady Middle School, founded in 1929 and named after James S. Deady—a respected justice of the peace, mayor, and school board president in Harrisburg before it became part of Houston ISD — proudly serves students in grades 6–8 as part of Houston ISD. Located at 2500 Broadway Street in southeast Houston, Deady has evolved into a vibrant magnet campus, now known as the Academy of Energy, Medicine & Aerospace Technologies, offering specialized programs that prepare students for future STEM and medical careers. Over the decades, Deady has cultivated a nurturing community, emphasizing rigorous academics, a rich creative arts program (including its own Broadway Company), athletics, robotics, and social services support. With a dedicated staff averaging over ten years of teaching experience, the school maintains a strong student–teacher ratio—roughly 17:1—serving around 500 students, most of whom come from under-resourced backgrounds and are Title I eligible. Guided by a mission to build lifelong scholars through high standards, self-discipline, and community engagement, Deady continues its long tradition of transforming young lives—just as James Deady envisioned nearly a century ago.
